Flavor on 51 | Future out of Fire

Flavor on 51 serves up gourmet comfort food to warm your soul.

Flavor on 51 exemplifies the home town, gourmet, family owned and exciting restaurant everyone in Weatherford wants to eat at! Jonathan and Rebecca Schiller opened their food truck in May of 2020, fighting through the red tape of the COVID pandemic. The Weatherford community supported them and built them up, mostly because you take one bite of a breakfast burrito and you’re hooked. They really put the FLAVOR on 51!

Unique menu items constantly grace their menu. With dessert eggrolls, burgers piled high with pulled pork and egg, breakfast pretzels, bacon wrapped jalapeƱo poppers, these culinary creatives can’t stop and won’t stop. They’re constantly pushing the envelope of comfort food and the community is lining up for it! Casa Decor hosts a Chili and Salsa Cook Off with giant spoons as a trophy!

Casa Decor based in Weatherford Texas reached out to us at Wachusett Woodworks with an interesting request. Three foot long wooden spoons engraved with “2023 Chili Cook-Off Winner” and “2023 Salsa Cook-Off Winner”. These spoons would be given to the winners of the first ever Salsa Chili Cook Off hosted at the new Casa Decor location. We were so honored to take on this unique request, work with other small businesses and make beautiful hardwood pieces suited for two winners!

With the help of the talented 1836 Custom Designs in Weatherford, we set off to craft these two beauties. We carved solid chunks of cherry on our CNC machine so they were the exact same sized spoons. Hand sanding was our only way to finish these with all the curves, so we took a few days and quite a few hours to go through the sanding and wetting process until they were perfectly smooth. Delivering them to Craig and Elda at 1836 was passing the torch to another creative. They took the spoons and perfectly designed the laser engraving to compliment the shape of the spoons. They were a pair made perfectly for the Cook-Off!

Flavor on 51 brought the flavor to the first ever Chili and Salsa Cook Off!

On November 4th of 2023, seven local food legends participated in the first ever Salsa and Chili Cook Off hosted by Casa Decor. Flavor on 51 entered their flavor packed chili and went up against Weatherford greats like Northside Remedy, Teskeys Cafe, 589 Hickory BBQ Co., Tailgaters BBQ, Downtown Cantina and Antebellum Alehouse. Their ingenuitive ingredient combinations paid off and Flavor on 51 took home the coveted Chili Spoon while Antebellum Alehouse earned a well deserved Salsa Spoon!

Both restaurants were so excited to bring home their coveted award. Both spoons were put on display in their respective restaurants as a testament to their hard work and determination. Flavor on 51 posed frequently with their spoon and their restaurant mascot Clancy. The whole team took pride in their accomplishment and displayed the trophy for all of their community to see!

At the start of 2024, disaster struck for Flavor on 51

An accidental fire started in the food truck parked next to the indoor dining area of Flavor 51 overnight on January 1st, 2024. Gratefully, no one was present at the time and no lives were lost. The entire food truck was engulfed in flames and fire gutted most of the indoor seating space. Being a total loss, Jonathan and Becca now have to figure out how to still serve the food they love making without the restaurant or truck to do it in.

No one could tell what had survived and things needed to be sorted through piece by piece. Miraculously, while sifting through what was left in the rubble, the Flavor on 51 team uncovered their prized spoon that was left with just a few singe marks! Everything else around the spoon was melted and disfigured, but somehow this cherry wood spoon survived intact with just some scorching to add character.

One of the restaurant employees, Kelli, reached out to us to show the damage to the restaurant and how they were gobsmacked that the spoon could have even survived. It seems as though pumpkin head Clancy used his own body as a shield to give the spoon a little more time until fire rescue personnel could get the flames under control. Looking at the images and reading their story gave us goosebumps. What are the chances?? This just goes to show that with a little determination and willpower, Flavor on 51 can rise from the ashes and come back bigger and stronger with more character than ever before!

What’s next for Flavor on 51?

The fight isn’t over; it’s just begun. Flavor on 51 needs your support and love to keep going! Thankfully, Jonathan and Becca have two more restaurants that are open for business right now. Uncle Monty’s Pizza is located next door to their burnt building and was not impacted by the fire at Flavor on 51. They are still open for business! A few months prior to this catastrophic event, the owners opened another branch of their brand; Seventy One Bar & Grill located in the Oeste Ranch Golf Course. You do not need to be a proficient golfer or even a golfer at all to enjoy the amazing cuisine offered here! Give them a visit tonight for dinner.
